ABOUT THE ARTIST

 Rin Marks is a sculptor and mixed media artist based outside of Chicago, Illinois. Originally working as a professional makeup artist, Rin did makeup and wig construction for local theaters, photo shoots, and events. Her most recognizable credits for makeup work come from Nike, IMDb, Chicago Costume, and The Huffington Post.

A life-long lover of art and creating, her beginning with clay goes back to early childhood. Working with special effects makeup deepened this love of clay, and she became fascinated by the molding and casting process used to create makeup prosthetics. This eventually led to her departure from the makeup industry to pursue sculpture outside of special effects, with an emphasis on décor and sculpted figures.

By taking this knowledge from special effects, painting, and general crafting, Rin developed the creative process that she uses today. This mixed media approach results in fully handmade pieces that are rich in character, color, and texture.

In a world filled with automation and mass-produced goods, Rin is passionate about keeping handmade pieces alive - as well as the ancient process of clay sculpture and creating molds and replicas by hand.
